Exam pattern of Goethe Institut A1

German A1 exam pattern is simple and easy to clear. There are 4 parts in the Goethe Institut A1 examination:

  1. Lesen (reading)
  2. Hören (listening)
  3. Schreiben (writing)
  4. Sprechen (speaking)

One must get 60% in order to pass the Goethe Institut A1 examination.

Let us discuss all the modules one by one:

Hören (listening):

The first module in the exam is hören. It contains 3 parts (Teile)

Total time: 20 Minutes
Total marks: 15
Teil 1 (6 marks): 6 Questions of multiple-choice (Dialog)
Teil 2 (4 marks): 4 questions of True-False (Announcements)
Teil 3 (5 marks): 5 Questions of multiple-choice (Monolog)

Teil 1:

Part 1 (Teil 1) consists of 6 questions and there will be 6 audios. In every question, there are 3 options A, B and C. In this part, every audio is played twice. You need to understand the audio and the question and select the right option (a or b or c).

Teil 2:

Part 2 has 4 questions and four audios. These audios are basically announcements. Every audio will be played only once. The question has 1 sentence. You need to understand the audio and find out, which statement is right (richtig) and which statement is false (falsch).

Teil 3:

You will have 5 questions and again there will be A, B, C options. You need to understand the audio and the question and select the right option (a or b or c).

 

Lesen (reading):

Total time: 45 Minutes
Total marks: 15

Teil 1 (5 marks):

5 Questions of True-False. You will be given two small texts and 5 statements. You have to read the text and decide accordingly, which statement is right (richtig) and which statement is false (falsch).

Teil 2 (5 marks):

There will be 5 questions with a purpose. Every question has two screenshots of two websites (website a and website b). You have to understand the purpose and select the right website (website a or website b) accordingly.

Teil 3 (5 marks):

In part 3 again there will be some small text information from some signboards. With every signboard,  you will have 5 statements. You need to understand the information in signboard and the statement and to find out, which statement is right (richtig) and which statement is false (falsch).

 

Schreiben (writing):

Total time: 20 Minutes
Total marks: 15

Teil 1 (5 marks): In this question, you will be given some information about a person and based on this information, you need to fill a form on his or her behalf.  There will be 5 blanks in the form and you need to read the given information and fill out these 5 blanks.

Teil 2 (10 marks): You need to write a formal or an informal letter of 30 words with the right salutation, and ending.

 

Sprechen (speaking):

Total time: 15 Minutes
Total marks: 15
Teil 1 (3 marks): Introduction, knowledge of German alphabets and German numbers.

In part 1, you have to:

  • Give your introduction
  • Examiner will ask you to spell some basic words, for example, your first name, your last name, etc.
  • Examiner will ask you your mobile number, Pincode or some other number.

Teil 2 (6 marks): W-Questions (who, why, what, etc.)

There are two rounds in the part. In each round, there will be 6 cards and 4 participants  (including you). Every round has a theme (for example, school, friends, eating and drinking etc).

Examine places all the 6 cards upside down on the table and every student takes one card. Every card has a word. Student has to make one W-Question using that word on the card and the theme. The next person has to answer that question and the chain goes on.

In the second round, there will be new 6 cards with a new theme and the round goes so on as the first round.

Teil 3 (6 marks): Request questions ( for example Could you please pass the water bottle? or May I use your computer? etc)

There are two rounds in the part. In each round, there will be 6 cards and 4 participants  (including you).

Examine places all the 6 cards upside down on the table and every student takes one card. Every card has an image (for example glass, mobile, etc.) on it. Student has to make one request question using the name of the image on the card.  The next person has to answer that question in yes or no and the chain goes on.

In the second round, there will be new 6 cards with new images and the round goes so on as the first round.
